History of our club
In 1945 the Bay of Quinte Aeromodellers Club was officially formed.
Regular flying sessions were conducted at Potters Field across the road from where Loyalist College's Pioneer building now stands. Members used a variety of equipment, much of it now forgotten.
After 1950 the club grew in size and members flew at the Deseronto airport. The club became affiliated with MAAC.
In 1971 the Bay of Quinte Aeromodellers received permission from the Canadian Forces to fly at the Mountainview airfield in conjunction with the Air Cadet glider operation. The MAAC charter was issued in 1972.
By 1982 club members were flying at Mountainview. After a lengthy search, 540 Victoria Rd was offered by Alfred and Edith Cairns.
The club really gained prominence when it started hosting the annual Jet Rally at Mountainview in 1987.
This event was one of the first of its kind in Canada and it attracted flyers and aircraft from all parts of Canada and the US. The first aircraft consisted of ducted fans but these eventually developed into actual turbo-jets with all of the complexity and speed that entailed. This continued to be a regular event until the final rally was held in 2007.
On April 19, 1989 the Bay of Quinte Aeromodellers Club was incorporated as a not-for-profit entity, number 824604, under the Province of Ontario.
Our landlords decided that 2013 would be the last season at the Victoria Road location and a search was initiated to find another property. We found an ideal location at 320 Stinson Block Road, Consecon, ON (N43 58'47" W77 31'56") and after much work the new airfield opened in the spring of 2014. Float flying is carried out at 76 Craig Rd Quarry just northeast of Belleville.
On Nov 4, 2023 the BQAC relocated its Consecon Field to 76 CRAIG RD, BELLEVILLE in uncontrolled airspace.
